Claude Monet was a prolific artist who, together with a group of contemporaries, established the genre of impressionism. Instead of depicting a scene in realism, they focused on their impression of a place in quick brush strokes and a dreamy palette.
This canvas is titled "Woman In A Garden" and is dated 1867. It now hangs in the Hermitage, St. Petersburg. It is a study in the effect of sunlight and shadow on color.
